Supported input formats

VideoTranscriptGen accepts common video and audio files through the uploader:

  • Video: MP4, MOV, and WebM
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, and M4A
  • Maximum duration: 30 minutes per uploaded file
  • Maximum upload size: 95 MB

The uploader checks the file before processing. A filename extension does not guarantee that every internal codec is supported, so confirm that the source plays normally on your device.

Output formats

TXT contains the transcript as editable plain text. It is suitable for notes, writing, search, and archiving. SRT contains numbered caption blocks and timestamps for subtitle import. Review either output before publication, especially names, figures, and specialist terminology.

Preparing a large or incompatible file

Export a standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio when a video editor offers those choices. For audio-only work, MP3 provides a smaller upload while WAV retains uncompressed source quality. If a recording exceeds the current duration or size limit, divide it at a natural pause and transcribe each part separately.

Direct link import is not currently part of the production upload workflow. Download or export a file you have permission to process, then upload that file. This page will be updated when supported inputs change.

For task-specific instructions, read MP4 to text, audio to text, or video to SRT.
